[bell telling [-- bell tolling] >> clergy members at the trinity episcopal church near sandy hook elementary school rang its bell 26 times for those killed their last friday. connecticut's governor stood with local and state treeders on the steps of town hall with

their heads bowed in a moment of silence. this was held at exactly 6:30 a.m. pacific time which is when the massacre started at sandy hook elementary. we're waiting to find out how much internet use was down that morning. and they were also calling for an online blackout. companies taking part included aol and adobe. arnold schwarzenegger, joe montana and jack dorsey, twitter founder participated as well. coming up at 7:16. we'll show you a video posted online by president obama this morning. at 7:17 a letter first lady michelle obama wrote to the people of newtown, connecticut

and then at 7:45, the nr will have a press -- nra will have a press conference. john boehner is speaking at the capitol. we're there live. here is taking questions at a live news -- from a live news conference. >> are you willing to give the president a proposal -- >> the president and i had a series of conversations. i told the president on monday. these were my bottom lines. the president told me that his numbers of 1.3 trillian in new revenues, 830 billion in spending cuts was his bottom line. and he couldn't go any further. so we see a situation where because because of the political divide in the country -- where because of the political divide in the country, trying to bridge these

differences has been difficult. if it were easy, this could have been decades before, i guarantee you. but we have to find a way to address this significant spending problem that we have and we need to find a way to begin to grow our economy in a way that will create more jobs in our country. >> we'll been live -- we've been living live to john boehner there talking about the fiscal cliff situation. last night, boehner had to cancel the plan b because he had not -- he about do the no -- he did not have enough support from republicans. this is a major story. we'll have more at 7:15. police are watching a large group of people here at home waiting outside in the cold to buy sneakers. these are live pictures. about 300 people outside the

newpark mall in newark, waiting to buy the new flickky air jordans. a lot -- nike air jordans. a lot of police out there. last year, one man fired a gunshot. about 200 people forced their way into the bane fair mall in san leandro. police have a big presence there. nothing is happening as we can see right now. we do have ktvu's pline grow res there. he will bring us a live update from the ground coming up at 7:30. a round of rain and strong wind moving into the bay area could affect your holiday travel plans. allie rasmus just spoke to sfo officials and she joins us live from sfo with some new information about flight delays. good morning, alley. >> reporter: good morning. you can see it's not raining right now. the weather is having an effect on travel here at san francisco international airport. if you look behind us, you can

see a number of people unloading. this is supposed to be the busiest travel day of the year with over 100,000 people through sfo. but because of the low ceiling and visibility, the traffic management program is in effect from sfo. this is inside the terminal. there are a lot of people here. the security line was packed. it could get more problematic and hectic today. starting at 7:00, this airport won't be able to use all of the runways because of that traffic management program put into effect by the faa. that could mean delays up to four hours for flights to arrive here and also delays from 30 to 60 minutes for flights departing from sfo. the spokesperson talked to us about the weather conditions. >> this is one of these winter storms that usually comes out of the south and that causes two things. it causes reduced visibility because of the rain and the

clouds. but it also causes the winds to come out of a different direction than what we normally see throughout the year. >> reporter: now, the spokesman said right now there are 35 canceled flights in and out of sfo and the breakdown is about 50/with cancellations and departures and canceled arrivals but they are expecting more weather to have an impact later today. the weather is already having an impact here even though it's not raining. low visibility and the winds as you just heard are causing sfo to change its configuration for its runway. that means not as many flights can come in and out. that means delays. expect that today. allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. san jose police are investigating the city's 45th homicide of the year. janine de la vega is on the scene where a man was stabbed just hours ago. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning,

tori. well, we know that witnesses are back at the police station getting interviewed. here on the scene, investigators are inside this photographry business called the agency here on oakland road. police say at 3:00 a.m. this morning, they received a 911 call from someone saying a man had been stabbed. they arrived and were told by witnesses that during a party a fight broke out and a man was stabbed once in the stomach. he was rushed to the hospital but died. police are still trying to figure out what the argument was about. >> we don't have any motive for the homicide. but we are actively investigation. we are investigating the incident this morning. >> reporter: police tell us the victim was 30 years old. he's not been identified because they are trying to get in touch with his family. now, we were told that by -- by one of the guests that this was a graduation party but that guest wouldn't tell us much more than that. we do know there was about 20 to 30 people in attendance.

the homicide unit has been out here on the scene gathering evidence. but police would still like to talk to witnesses who left the scene before they arrived. back out here live, you can see here's -- we're in a business park and the building is right next door where the latest homicide happened. but in that building there was a homicide, an actual man was shot at another party. and that happened at a bar over there. police are telling us that it's just a coincidence that two homicides happened in the same parking lot. they happened months apart but there's no connection. it's just a coincidence that these happened at parties. this is san jose's 45th homicide of the year. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. let's go to sal, see what's happening on the roads. i know you are keeping an eye on the toll plaza. >> that's right. it's not a big delay. first weekday of the week where

we've had light conditvery happ to see that getting into san francisco. the wet weather has not reached the toll plaza but it certainly has reached parts of the north bay. rosemary will be here in a moment to elaborate on that. 237, westbound, looks like some sun there and traffic light. when you see this light traffic, you know we're having a lighter than usual day. in the south bay, we don't have a lot of slow traffic, just some traffic approaching the mckee road turnoff. let's go to rosemary. good morning. gearing up for a wet holiday weekend ahead. ten minutes until the official sunrise. a mix of clouds out there and a few peaks of sunshine. we're looking at rain continuing to shot. all the way down into san francisco. this eventually will hit the ground and it should happen toon. the north bay has been hammered

at times. along highway 101, redwood boulevard, san marin drive, light to moderate rain falling in nova doe, lucas valley, san rafael, seeing light to moderate rain. it was coming down pretty good a few minutes ago. light rain all the way down into daly city and it looks like it's shifting down into the bay area as well pass oakley and birkly. our camera shots are -- berkeley. our camera shots are showing this is not hitting but it will. by 9:00 or so it should be in the south bay. in addition to the rain we're dealing with winds. 10 to 20 miles an hour in some cases. the bay area as well pass the coast dealing with a wind advisory until 10:00 this morning. these winds coming from the south which means if you are crossing the bay bridge, the richmond san rafael, it's blowing right against your car. it will be treacherous in some

cases. we have a winter storm warning for the sierra. this parent system here will just hang around saturday and sunday bringing us a new storm for each day. at this hour by 8:00, it's beginning to shift into the central bay, and then scattered showers will remain in the forecast throughout the afternoon. our evening is going to be a bit soggy. periods of rain on and off with mostly cloudy skies. so be prepared for that as you get outdoors and maybe do some holiday shopping. maybe get out for those travel says -- days grab the umbrella. there is your extended forecast. temperatures this morning because of the milder air mass as well as the cloudy conditions, we're not as cold. but into the afternoon, mid- to upper 50s in the forecast. we'll sort of hang there. mid-50s in the forecast saturday. sunday low 50s.

he's given a signal that he's still open to talks with president obama to avoid the fiscal cliff. kyla campbell says the next move will have to come from the democrats. >> reporter: house speaker john boehner just wrapped up that press conference a few minutes ago. he was asked if he was willing to accept taxing households making more than $250,000 a year. here's his response -- >> we're not gonna kick the can down the road which is what you are suggesting. >> reporter: boehner could not get conservative republicans on board. he says he's confident that he and congress can come up with a plan that pleases everyone. one that includes spending tax and taxes on the wealth.

newtown, connecticut, hundreds of thousands of you from all 50 states have signed petitions asking us to take serious steps to address the epidemic of gun violence in this country. >> now, this was posted on the white house youtube channel. the president calls for banning military assault-style assault weapons. the president wants congress to impose tougher proposes that will come from a task force led by vice president joe biden. more people are buying guns in some parts of the u.s. after the connecticut school shooting. walmart says it sold out of semi-automatic rifles in five states budding -- including pennsylvania, kansas and alabama. experts say some people fear it will be harder to buy guns if tougher gun control laws are passed. first lady michelle obama wrote a letter to the residents of newtown, connecticut, titled holding you in our hearts.

"as a mother of two young daughters, my heart aches for you and your families. like so many americans, i wish there were -- there was something, anything i could do or say to ease your anguish ." the gun violence tack force led by the vice president is already hard at work. janet napolitano and eric holder joined law enforcement leaders from across the country yesterday in washington, d.c. their goal is to create solid policy proposals for the president's push to change gun laws after the newtown, connecticut mass care. the federal government wants to -- massacre. the federal government wants to close down the harborside health center. it earns more than $20 million a year by selling medical marijuana. the federal government wants to close it and seize its property. a judge is considering whether

this landmark case should go to trial. the city of oakland is siding with the center which pays a lot of taxes. >> we would like the federal government to stop the tragic waste of resources on trying to shut down our legitimate regulations that are in dom pliance -- compliance with california law. >> now, the federal government and prosecutors are saying that large pot operations are prone to being abused by state marijuana laws by allowing pot to fall into the hands of people who don't necessary have medical marijuana certificates. 7:20. 12 california certificates have been fined for serious mistakes that endangered patients. in the bay area, kaiser oakland was fined $100,000 after a doctor failed to follow instructions on how to safely use a laser during surgery. kaiser san rafael was fined $50 for improper procedures with a patient and ucsf was fined

newschopper2 was flying over the scene minutes after the robbery. we saw police searching for evidence outside of the bank. the suspect was last scene running down tamalpais avenue. susan hamilton is talking about her secret life. she won seven track titles. she now tweets she began to work for a las vegas escort service as a way to cope with a struggling marriage and depression. she's going public after the smoking gun website reported she was earning as much as $600 an hour as a prostitute. she says she's getting psychological help now. sal is back. what are you seeing on the roads now? >> we've been talking about it all week. when was the day we were gonna start to see the lighter traffic associated with the

holiday coming up. i think today is the day. northbound 101 is moderate getting into the downtown san francisco area. bay bridge toll plaza lighter than usual. we usually have a crowd extending back to where we can see. it's not there this morning. if you are driving on northbound 101 in san jose, there are air delays expected at san francisco but not. three storms in three days. the first one rolling into the bay area this morning. bringing gusty conditions and wet roadways. over the north bay and eventually sliding south being -- seeing a few sprinkles being picked up over san francisco as well as parts of the east bay. we had a heavier amount of rain

hundreds of people lined up right now outside of a bay area mall. they are outside the newpark wall in newark.

ktvu's brian flores is there, too. what are they so eager to buy, brian? >> reporter: well, dave, you know what, first off, when you go out there shopping today, you need to be patient especially when it comes to hot- ticket items. and here at the newpark, the hot ticket item was the jordan shoes and that just spilled over to tension seen this morning. now, chopper 2 was over the scene when it happened. there was a confrontation among those waiting in line for the shoes. from what we understand, a particular shoe store called sheik was to hand out raffle tickets. the policy was first come/first served but when someone came out to hand out those tickets, a huge crowd yam bushed that person and that's how the you are cause started -- how the ruck cause started. there were -- ruckus started.

there were police surrounding the area. they are letting some people in the shoe store right now, from what we understand. >> i just came to get the shoes for my girlfriend. but now -- can't do it now. jordans everybody would do anything for some jordans but back in the day it was never this serious. >> reporter: this isn't the only time that this happened. just yesterday, police in huntsville, alabama had to use pepper spray to quell down an unruly crowd. it's reported there are no injuries there. these were people waiting in line to get a wristband to be able to purchase the shoes which retail for about $185. now, back out here live, we did talk with some fremont police officials. they are here to kind of quell any rowdy crowd control here this morning. we understand they are letting people in the store. brian flores, ktvu channel 2

take over for outgoing senator hillary clinton. kerry went to the top of the list after susan rice withdrew her name to be secretary of state last week. happening right now in washington, president obama is among the moneyers paying tribute to daniel onoie of hawaii. the senator died at the age of 88 on monday. again, these are live pictures. you are seeing what we're seeing. for 50 years, the senator represented his native hawaii in congress. this is traditional hawaiian music playing. the senator was a world war ii hero. he lost an arm in the war. he was the first japanese- american elected to both houses of congress. tomorrow the senator's body will be returned to hawaii and again, this memorial service happening in washington live. president obama is there. we'll have more details throughout the morning.

7:35. more tears will be shed in connecticut this morning. funerals are being held for five victims of the newtown, connecticut shooting one week ago. a private service is scheduled for mary sherlach. and rachel davino, there will be her funeral. there are also memorial services for grace mcdonnell, dylan and olivia engel. another shooting victim has been held for nancy han za. she was laid to -- lanza. she was laid to rest 120 miles from newtown, connecticut. approximately 25 family members attended the ceremony. 7:36. in michigan, dozens of schools canceled classes today because of that threat that today would

be doom's day based on the mayan calendar. there were rumors and threats of a student revolt if classes opened. administrators say they took those threats seriously, especially after what happened in connecticut last friday. they say rumors of trouble became a distraction and it was easier to close schools. students' safety caused collapses to be canceled in new milford, not far from newtown, connecticut. this morning police and federal agents raided a connecticut gun store connected to the shooting at sandy hook elementary school. they raided the store after learning that store has a history of being stolen. police believe that nancy lanza, the mother of the suspected shooter at sandy hook elementary, bought a gun at

that store that was later used in the shooting rampage. san francisco supervisors are expected to take up a new proposal next month to reduce gun violence. mayor ed lee and police chief greg suhr announceled the first of its kind legislation yesterday. it focuses on ammunition making it illegal for nonpolice officers to have hollow point bullets which can cause more serious injuries. >> the ammunition that's been designed especially by law enforcement for military use has no reason to be in our homes and on our streets. >> city officials also want to require gun deemers to notify police of anyone who buys more than -- dealers to notify police of anyone who byes more than -- who buys over a certain amount. mayor lee something has to be

done. montrell blakely was gunned down in san francisco's bayview district last weekend while visiting his family. no arrests have been made in his killing. tonight's vigil for blakely regins at 7:00 at con-- begins at 7:00 at concord high school. his teams are also raising money for his funeral by selling christmas ornaments. a driver has been detained by san francisco police accused of hitting a group of pedestrians near twin peek. one victim said a speeding car hit three of them about last night. they fell down a hillside. you see the firefighters there using ropes and backboards to rescue them and pull them back up the hill. the police are investigating what happened. >> we look at all kinds of factors as far as intoxication of the driver or any of the other parties. the vehicle equipment, was it

are getting into san francisco. almost areas into burlingame. we're seeing a few light showers. and hercules, we have richmond down to albany. benicia, you are probably filling it or seeing it. make sure you carry the umbrella. we have several rounds of rain coming our way in time for the weekend. we have a wind advisory for san francisco apartment well as the coastline. but you don't have to be in san francisco to feel the breeze. we have 18 miles an hour in oakland. some of the hills really gusting. los gatos, reporting 45 miles an hour. and areas near mt. diablo, 50- mile-an-hour gusts reported there. headed to the sierra, i don't see any snow falling just yet but there is a winter storm warning that will last until sunday night. it could be a zoozy at times. table it ease -- take it easy. we have three storms heading our way. we could see 3 to 5 inches.

president joe dieden -- biden now in charge of a task force on reducing gun violence. he wants the federal government to match what the state spends on mental health dollar for dollar. he also says california's prop 63 which pays for mental health programs could be a model for the whole country. gun control supporters are raising concerns about new technology, one that could allow one to build guns at home using a 3-d printer after you download the design. it's said to build a some my- automatic a -- semi-automatic rifle. that's one of the guns said to be used in the shooting. the world has not ended. obviously we're still on tv. the mayan people are starting a new era.

police are searching for the hit and run driver who ran down and killed a man and his dogs. those victims were found at sutter and louisiana streets yesterday morning. now, one of the neighbors told ktvu she heard a loud noise. didn't see any skid marks, though, and no sign of the driver. the dog died right there at the scene. the owner of the drug, a 64- year-old -- dog, a 64-year-old man, died later at a hospital in fairfield. neighbors say drivers speed

through that area all of the time. >> all kinds of young people, they don't care. they will hit you and keep going. they don't care. hit a dog, keep going. >> they are going too fast for the neighborhood. they left him for dead, did not stop. >> some neighbors say speeders take sutter street to get around the much busier sonoma boulevard. if you have any information, call police. americans learn -- americans made more money in november. the income hike was .06%. chevron corporation is moving as many as 800 of its employees from the bay area to texas. the company is relocating one quarter of its staff at the san

marrone headquarters. chevron says it will remain based in here. most of the workers being moved are in technical positions tied to oil exploration and production. affected workers will transfer between now and 20 sa -- 2015. students at sandy hook will be getting gifts. there will be secret santa gifts to those kids who survived the shooting. the middle school students usually exchange gifts with each other but they voted to donate gifts to those children in connecticut who have been affected by the tragedy. well, a record number of americans ordered holiday gifts from online stores which were offering free shipping. now many of those packages may not make it to their destinations by christmas because of bad weather. u.p.s. is expected to deliver 28 million packages yesterday. that's double a normal day.

but storms out there shut down services in parts of iowa and nebraska which makes it longer for a lot of packages to get to their final destinations all over the country. 7:55. almost 8:00. sal, what's going on in the south bay? >> well, right now we're looking at just a lot of the traffic that's normally very slow getting into the valley. you will be happy to know that 237 looks pretty good. i want to show you milpitas traffic here. normally we have this big backup where 237 and 880 kind of meet. there's not that one. as you go to the toll plaza, the same thing happens here. westbound, it's light. we're expecting light conditions for at least part of next week as well. if not for all of it. >> if you are driving to the contra costa area there is a little bit of slowing in antioch but the rest of the commute on highway 4, 680 and 242 does look good. let's go to rosemary. it's a messy morning commute for some of us. >> mostly cloudy skies for others. numbers are up, anywhere from 10 to 20 over yesterday

full of first-graders. but we were there live bringing you this observance of a national moment ofs is. we're waiting now to -- of silence. we're waiting to find out how much internet use was down at 6:30 this morning. gun control supporters created a website calling for a web blackout the it was an online moment of silence for the newtown victims, taking part was aol and adobe and several celebrities, including arnold schwarzenegger, joe montana, mc hammer and twitter co-founder jack dorsey took part as well. the n -- the nra is preparing to hold a press conference. this is the first time the group has spoken out. let's listen in. >> what do we do about the tragedies of the sort that struck in newtown, connecticut to avoid such events in the future? >> like most americans, we were

been violence like this, they have been silent. 8:08. wet weather moving into the bay area could have a significant effect on flights at bay area airports. ktvu channel 2 reporter allie rasmus is live at sfo with information on expected delays and, of course, this comes on a peak day for holiday travel. >> good morning, allie. >> reporter: the delays are already happening. it's not raining here at sfo, but the weather is having an impact on flights. if we point the camera up to the sky and show you the clouds, they will dark. the visibility is low because of that and because of the wind patterns. that's prompted the faa too put runway restrictions in place here at sfo. what that means, not as plane flights can come in and out of this airport as usual. what that means is delays. this is, as you mentioned, supposed to be one of the busiest travel days of the holiday season for the airport.

right now we're in a little bit of a lull. you can see people getting dropped off for their flights. most of the early-morning flights have already departed. things are busy inside the terminal. but not overwhelmingly busy. but these travelers and every other traveler today can expect ticket to 60-minute delays. not every other but something for people to keep in mind. delays are gonna be likely today. arriving flights at sfo may be delayed up to four hours. passengers are kinding their fingers cross -- are keeping their fingers crossed. >> take a nap. i'm meeting my husband. i haven't seen him in about four months. i would like to see him. >> you are hoping everything works out? >> yes. >> this is one of these winter storms that usually comes out of the south. that causes reduced visibility because of the rain and the clouds but it also causes the winds to come out of a different direction than what

we normally see throughout the year. >> there's no rain yet here at sfo. but the low clouds and wind from this impending storm is leading to some delays and cancellations at sfo. 30 to 60-minute delays. there were some delays and canceled flights to certain parts of the country. we did hear a passenger coming up and tell us her international flight to paris was canceled. this is supposed to be the busiest travel day. 130,000 people are coming in and out of sfo today. the crowds and the cancellations could make things chaotic especially when the rain starts to hit later this afternoon. so check with your airlines before you come to the airport. live at sfo, allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. we should pound out we're watching -- we should point out we're watching oakland and san jose airport. sal's watching our commute. >> i was just checking in.

san jose and oakland airports don't have the same runway configuration that allie mentioned. the runways are not so close so the planes are not backed you on a normal basis like at sfo. let's take a look at northbound 101, san francisco, a little bit windy here as you approach the 80 split. no major problems driving to downtown san francisco. 24 is a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. i think we'll see a few days this coming up for the christmas holiday. christmas is on tuesday. i think a lot of people have time off. moving along to the walnut creek area, 680 looks good. at 8:11. let's go to rose mare yay. >> we've got fairly dry weather in spots. this is the berkeley area. gray skies a few scattered showers. over the north bay, an inch to an inch and a half reported with this system here within the last several hours, north

of santa rosa. santa rosa has picked up about an 1. this system moving incredibly slow from what i can tell, it's shifting anywhere from about 10 miles per the hour. so it continues to sink south but this is a three-hour loop. you can see it's just not moving very fast. it will continue to move through. we will eventually all see this rain. it's just going to take its time through the morning hours. light to moderate rain reported at times along highway 101. you can see moderate rain over novato. we continue to see it off and on. along highway 1, moderate rain falling. over the city, we've seen light rain. and it tapers off. right abelong the -- along the embarcadero area. along the marina, the sunset direct. it's hit or miss across the east bay. crockett you are in a bit of a dry spot. martinez, fairfield. it's shifting south, going

slower than the models had predicted but eventually this is going to move out and we'll see scattered showers. more rain in storm for the weekend. winds picking up quite a bit in some spots. anywhere from 10 to 20 miles an hour. allie rasmus says it's still dry there at least for the time being. gifts picking up to 30 to 40 miles an hour. mt. diablo reporting near 50. it's gusting why out there and the wet weather is coming if you haven't felt it just yet into the sierra. we're seeing some light snow fall over i-80 right over blue canyon. there is a winter storm warning that starts later this morning. this has been delayed as well. it will last into sunday night. if you are going to be doing any type of travel, be prepared for this. if you are going north, snow levels are down to about 500 feet this morning and then will rise throughout parts of the weekend. the wind advisory until 10:00 for san francisco as well as the coast.

we just heard from house speaker john boehner after his fiscal cliff plan b did not go to a vote last night. john boehner now says it's up to the president to come up with a new plan. >> reporter: dave, speaker boehner says he's still willing to talk with the president. but its obvious the two cannot agree on who should pay higher taxes and boehner could not get house republicans to sign on for increased rates for those making more than $1 million a year. he said it was not the outcome he wanted -- he wanted but the will of the house. boehner says the president has the next move. >> unless the president and the congress take action, tax rate also gun on every american tax payer and devastating defense cuts will go into effect in ten days. >> reporter: some d.c. insiders

say it could benefit republicans to go over the fiscal cliff. tax rates would go up for everyone january 1st and pruns could vote for tax cuts then instead of tax hikes for the wealthy now. that said, president obama believes he and congress can quickly come up with a deal that pleases both parties. members of congress head home for christmas today. they get back to work next thursday, four days before the deadline. kyla campbell, ktvu channel 2 news. right now san jose police are investigating a fatal stabbing that happened early in morning. this is the 45th homicide of the year in san jose. ktvu's janine de la vega is on the scene now tell us this all started at a party. >> reporter: we're here on oakland road. in the last few minutes we've seen officers looking in the parking lot. they've been using their flashlights and looking into bushes for evidence here in front of this business called

the agency. that's where about 20 to 30 people were celebrating in the early-morning hours. at 3:00 this morning, police were called to that business when they received a 911 call that a man there was stabbed. they arrived and found a man suffering from at least one stab wound to the stomach. he was taken to the hospital where he died shortly after. police took several guests who were witnesses back to the police station to interview. they told police a fight ensued at the party. this raises the homicide rate to 45 this year. >> one homicide is one too many in my humble opinion. but as i always say, we hope this was the last one. we have a couple of more weeks left in the year. it's never easy having to come and speak of another homicide in the city of -- in the city of san jose. >> reporter: the victim is 30. his identity is not being released. one guest told us off camera, this was a graduation party. it's unknown how or if the man

worked at a business or if he was a guest at the party. now, back out here live, this is the second time that a homicide happened in this parking lot. a shooting took place right on the next building over right over there. there was a party going on at a bar and one man was shot. but police tell us that there's no connection between these two crimes. it's just a coincidence that both happened this year. both happened at parties and both happened in this same business park. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. 8:20. new this morning, san jose police have arrested two men in connection with the homicide that happened last week. 20-year-old jacob wittily and 21-year-old louise rainia are now in custody suspected of killing an 18-year-old during a robbery attempt. his body was found on fairhaven drive last tuesday near a pickup truck that was on the sidewalk. at first, police thought his injuries were from the crash

but they later temperatured -- but they later determined he had been shot. overnight in antioch, a police chase ended in a fiery crash right there. it happened on highway 4 about 1:30 this morning. a robbery suspect slammed into that retaining wall. the suspect ran away but he was captured two weeks a -- two blocks away later treated for injuries. also, firefighters investigating a house fire in san pablo. that happened about 2:00 this mourning on colon street. firefighters say it appears no one was inside when the flames started. they believe a candle or a cigarette -- may have started it. the man who lives there will have to find another place to stay today. new trouble this morning for a marine who was praised -- praised for standing watch at a california elementary school. what he lied about and how he's explaining his actions. your weather is a big part

a former u.s. marine who has been praised for voluntarily standing guard

outside of a -- out side of a elementary school in modesto apparently lied about his military service. on monday, craig usely went to houston elementary school in his un form and -- and stood guard. he said he was a sergeant in the reserve and -- and served in afghanistan and iraq. however, the u.s. marine corps said he never served -- he never served overseas and was discharged. some parents say he could -- they should have -- some parents say a brack ground should have been done. background should have been done. he did apologize for the situation and for wearing his uniform outside of the school. that's a violation of marine

corps policy. the marine corps has not said whether or not he will be punished. time's 8:25. sal is back. he knows all about our commute. how are we looking? >> i think we're doing pretty well. we're not all that bad. i think this is the first day we'll see light conditions approaching the holiday looking at some of these live pictures, you can will see that 280 is clear getting into the downtown area. some people are going to work to be sure but others are not. let's take a look at the commute at the toll plaza. it's also very light coming into san francisco. if you are driving in contra costa county, it looks pretty good on 80 westbound and also on 242 and we're gonna switch it to the hayward -- the san jose commute. northbound 101 near 880 there is a crash on the shoulder. let's go to rose maury. the storm outside of our door making a slow progression over the north bay. offer the central and south bay, no rain just yet. but we've got some moderate rain falling, even heavy at times, you can see light over

the lake villaraigosa area. we're -- lakeville area. we're talking about an inch per hour. this is moving. it won't just sit over these area areas -- areas. really dumping over parts of the north bay but then you switch south and many of us are just dry. we have a few light scattered showers over the san rafael and bay bridge. over the city at times. allie rasmus is at sfo. she said it's not raining there jet. parts of the east bay beginning to see scattered showers over mill valley, light to moderate rain. larkspur as well. we'll continue with this as the storm continues to move to the south and the east. over the sierra, watching a little bit of light snow over the lake tahoe and blue canyon air, i should say. on the other hand, our temperatures because of the mild air mass in place and the clouds, 40s and 50s. you will notice it's not as cold outside right now. by the afternoon, mid- to upper

happening right now, hundreds of people lined up outside of a bay area mall and tensions are rising. they are trying to buy the hottest new shoes. the new air jordans. ktvu's brian flores is at the newpark mall in newark. i know the police had to be called in, brian. >> reporter: yeah, dave. good morning to you and, yes, tensions still are high and we were just in the mall a few minutes ago. there was a line that went from that shoe store for people waiting for. air jordans. the crowd was basically told they didn't have anymore shoes. but the crowd remains in there and they are not dispersing at this moment. take a look at video we shot earlier this morning. this is chopper 2. from what we understand, talking to

eyewitness, the shoe store inside the mall was to hand out free raffle tickets to people that wait in line to get the new jordans. the store's policy was first come first served but when a mall employee came out to hand out the tickets, the huge crowd pretty much bum rushed that that person and that's when the police were called. there were several fire department and medical officials here. they let the crowd in shortly after 7:00 this morning. there was a long line inside the mall. it continued until about ten minutes ago. from what we understand, the shoe store stopped selling the shoes but the crowd is still in there. hoping maybe to get the shoes. here's what some people had to say about it this morning. >> and i guess one of the security guards started to give out the tickets and that's when it started to get heck -- get

hectic. i got lucky. they let me in. >> reporter: this is not the only time this happened. police yesterday in huntsville, alabama had to use pepper spray to quell down an unruly crowd at a store over there. no reports or injuries report. these were people just waiting in line to get a wristband to purchase shoes that retail for about $185. the situation here seems to be under control. police had to force people to turn away. the store says that they are actually out of shoes. a lot of people are scrambling to go to other locations to find the new air jordans. that's the latest here. >> thank you, brian. we are on stormwatch this morning. more wind and rain is moving in. lorraine blanco is live in san rafael with a look at the conditions there. it looks like it's coming down. >> reporter: it is. it's actually picking up quite a bit.

senator daniel inouye. he served the 50th state in the senate for 50 years. speakers at the memorial service you see there, former bill clinton, it's being held at the national cathedral in washington, d.c. other dignitary -- dignitaries include, joe biden, harry reed. his body will be flown back to his native hawaii tomorrow. the morning continues in newtown, connecticut. funerals are being held for five of the victims. right now a private service is being held for mary sherlach, the school psychologist. there is a funeral being held for rachel davino. students include grace mcdonald, dylan hockly and olivia engel. another shooting victim was laid to rest yesterday in new hampshire, if was for nancy

lanza, the shooter's mother. it took place in kingston, about 150 miles from newtown, connecticut. about 25 family members were there at that ceremony? the national rifle association is calling for armed police officers in american schools as the only way to stop school shootings. the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. >> the nation's largest gun rights lobby the nra, also blaming the media for allowing violent culture. code pink, protesters there, disrupting the speech twice, holding up signs saying nra blood on your hands and the nra is killing our kids. a memorial is planned for

17-year-old montrell blakely i was shot and killed in san francisco's bayview district last weekend as he was visiting his family. so far no arrests have been made. the vigil planned for tonight begins at 7:00 p.m. at concord high school. some of his teammates were raising -- trying to raise money for his funeral by selling christmas ornaments. a contra costa county employee has been arrested accused of embezzling thousands of dollars from a food stamps program. the contra costa times is reporting that tina crosby was arrest the after an investigation into reports of -- arrested after an investigation into reports of fraud. prosecutors say she falsified records to embezzle about $5400 worth of public assistance. she's been charged with four felonies and could get up to four years in prison if convicted. -- if convicted. we want to check in with

quite a bit of rain, moderate to heavy at times right off the north bay coastlines moving into mill valley, san rafael, this has broken up and dispainted -- dissipated. rain rates about 1 to 1.03 an hour. ponds on the roadways at this point. we have lorraine blanco and she showed you her live shot. along the peninsula we're seeing a steady light rain. this is continuing to shift to the south and east. over pacifica, we have light to moderate ram. sfo has been dry. scattered showers should begin to fall there, if not already. and then into the east bay, we have light rain. hercules, richmond into berkeley. la fayette, concord and further

welcome back. 8:45. let's bring you up to date on some of the top stories we're following for you right -- right now. we have new video that came in at newtown, connecticut. look at the pictures in the pooring rain. some of the first responders who were at the school last friday at the time of the shooting. they stood in prayer. firefighters and rescue personnel were there comforting each other. >> also injuries hours ago, here at home in san jose, a man was stabbed to death at a party. it happened on oakland road about 3:00 this morning. so far, no arrests have been made. and in washington, at a news conference, house speaker john boehner says now it's up to the

democrats to stop the nation from going over the fiscal cliff. last night, boehner was forced to cancel a vote on his plan b to raise taxes on millionaires because he didn't have the support of republicans to pass it. 8:46. if you are planning to fly today, you may want to talk the chet tis -- check the status of your flight before you head to the airport. allie rasmus is live at sfo with information on delays due to the weather. good morning, allie. >> reporter: we just got an update on cancellations that are here at sfo. 25 departures canceled. six arriving flights scheduled to arrive here have been canceled for this morning. you can see the rain was just starting to come down. it's very, very light. no storm light conditions. the weather is what is causing the delays and cancellations today here at sfo. visibility is low and the wind patterns have prompted the faa to put runway restrictions in

place -- runway restrictions. delays and cancellations. taking a look at what is happening at the airport, you can see a lot of people coming to unload here. check into their flights head to visit family and friends for the holidays. this is supposed to be one of the busiest travel days of the holiday season for sfo. apparently 130,000 people coming to the airport alone. i will show you what it looks like inside the terminal. security checkpoint was pretty busy but not overwhelmingly slow. travelers can expect 30 to 60- minute delays for their depar ur-- departures. arriving flights at sfo could be delayed by up to four hours. again, because of the weather conditions, not so much the rain, but the low clouds and wind. some travelers have already experienced disappointment like one family we talked to who had

their flight canceled. >> the next time we leave is the 23rd. we're only there a week. leaving on the 23rd is a disappointment. >> based on the weather forecast it looks like we're due for rain starting midmorning probably going to rain throughout the morning. definitely is the -- the best advice is to check out before coming out here. >> the passenger you heard from her flight canceled to paris. she was. latest update from the airport duty manager, 25 departures canceled. 26 arrivals here. this is one of the busiest travel days of the holiday season for this airport. so with the crowds and the cancellations, you can expect things to get a little more chaotic later on this afternoon when the rain really hit. live at sfo, allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. >> 8:48.

food service workers at oakland international airport could go on strike as early as tomorrow. the union has been without a contract since july 1st. at issue, medical insurance costs and a proposed wage freeze. the union says there have been promising conversations with airport food and beverage provider. but still, no contract. 8:49. conservation groups just wrapped up a deal for 3300 acres along the crest of the sierra nevada. the 11 million deal to buy royal cross country city resort will block building luxury resorts. we're following developing news out of north korea. the north korean government says it has detained an american citizen who it says has confessed to unses fid crimes. this is the first time -- unspecified crimes.

this is the first time they've confirmed arrests about ken ethbay. north korea has -- kenneth bay. north korea has detained other americans in recent years but they were all eventually released. protests in egypt erupted in violence. police fired tear gas in egypt's second largest city. thousands of islamists and opponents hurled rocks and stones is avenue ear other. critics say this -- stones is -- rocks and stones at each other. the 15-year-old girl from pakistan who was shot by the taliban she's asking her country not to name a college after her. her name is malala. she was targeted by the taliban because she supports women' education. recently the pakistani government named a college in her honor.

but malala is asking the government to reverse that after the school was vandalized. in his annual speech, pope benedict xvi spoke out very strongly about sake marriage. he said people are manipulating god-given gifts. back here at home, a legal battle between the city of oakland and the federal government over a medical marijuana dispensaries, it is one of the biggest in the country. the harborside health center has 100,000 patients. it earns more than $20 million a year by selling medical marijuana. >> the federal government wants to close it and seize the property. a judge is considering whether this landmark case should go to trial. >> the city is siding with the center which brings in a lot of taxes for oakland. another honor for olympian

since marylou retin it in 1984. gabby won gold medals in the individual and team all-around competitions in the 2012 summer olympics in london. she's hoping to compete in rio in 2016. santa is trading in his sleigh for a motorcycle this morning to bring joy to some children in oakland. the 6th annual motor santa operations starts in a few hours. video from years past, santa and the police team will ride their motorcycles throughout the city to pass out children. the toys were purchased from money donated to the motorcycle drill team. santa claus made an early appearance at a japanese town that is still suffering from last year's tsunami. he arrived at an elementary school. about 30 kids raced out to welcome home.

speaking of the gifts students at sandy hook elementary will be getting a holiday gift from students in san jose. they will send event santa gifts to those kids who survived the shooting last week. the middle school students usually exchange gifts with each other but they voted to donate to help the spirits of the kids affected by that tragedy in connecticut. and we quickly want to mention before we go to sal, promising news for job seekers in california. the state's jobless rate has dipped below 10% since the recession began. it's at 9.84%. good news for job seekers. it's raining around the bay area. i know that's afaithing the -- affecting the commute. >> yeah, a car hit a light pole, may have lost control in -- on some of the wet streets.
